Simply routines and daily rhythm is important. I can’t stress this enough. With seven children, a bustling household, mothering, homeschooling, and small business to manage, daily routines are critical for our family. In general, I try not to set up a rigid plan for our day because we need to allow enough MARGIN in our day to keep peace. By setting up a visual daily “plan” it allows the kids to see what the day looks like for us. We all like to visualize the plan for the day and the kids love helping arrange it and take things off the chalkboard as we complete things. I have loved these cards from Treehouse Schoolhouse They are super helpful.
Each of my kids have a checklist in their Morning Menu (which we will share about in another post). On that checklist it is also a visual for them to know what to do for school everyday and a place to check off when they are done. This system gives our children a sense of accomplishment when they get to check off what they have done!
Additionally, in order for things to run smoothly around this household, we must have everyone PITCH in! Each child has a handful of chores to do each day. This not only helps Brian and I manage the workload, but it teaches the kids responsibility and hard work. We have now arrived at a place where they know what they need to do each day. This didn’t happen overnight, but with consistency in this daily routine, the kids now keep up with their chores each day. We got a cute magnetic board that shows pictures of what they need to do and they can move to the done side when done.
