I have been thinking about the word “simplify” a lot lately. I’m reminded of my dad and how he was a simple guy.
My dad was not a man of many words, but when he did speak they were wise words. He loved the Lord and God used him in many ways. His sermons that he preached in downtown Los Angeles to the homeless were full of truth. At the same time, he preached in a way that was easy to understand and right to the point. He was truly reaching one person at a time for the Lord!
Striving for Simplicity
I want simplicity in my life. With this in mind, my goal is for our family to have a simplified life in every area. This includes homeschool, our marriage, parenting, and our family. This day in age people are all about the “go, go, go, ” and are staying busy with every minute of every day. Sometimes this is unavoidable as life does tend to get busy. But if there is busyness without break, then there is no room for time with the Lord. If we schedule every part of every day, then there is no margin in the day!
I am reminded of that verse in Psalm 46:10 that says “Be still, and know that I am God“. If our lives our filled with constant motion, it would be impossible to be still.
Also, with the increase of technology (phones, television, video games, internet etc….) we are more busy than ever. This is not a good thing! Our kids are being affected in a negative way. They need a simple life with lots of margin, lots of play, lots of outside, lots of love and routine! When I first started homeschooling, I didn’t know what I was doing and definitely didn’t have the “simplified” idea in mind!
I’m thankful God has blessed me with many people to show me the importance of slowing down and simplifying our life! We realized that school doesn’t need to look like it does in the Public School! Homeschool is life at home and a way of life! Sure we do the basic schoolwork including writing, math and reading, but it is so much more for our family! It is life with our kids at home teaching them each day. God is good and I’m thankful He has shown me the importance of simplifying!
