Family Devotionals (Part 1)

Family Devotionals (Part 1)

Family devotional is something that our family gathers to do almost every night. This time is so important to us! We value opening up our Bibles, and getting everyone involved. This time is for learning Biblical values and for growing in our Christian character. It is something we want our children to have and to take to heart. We have several different devotionals we have used and enjoyed over the years. I will share two with you today.

Our Favorite Family Devotional Books

I’m thankful to a friend who shared with us years ago this first devotional we use with our family. Its been so wonderful. This devotion which is one of our favorites, is 24 Family Ways by Clay Clarkson.

family devotionals book

This devotional book is a discipleship resource for teaching Biblical family values in a way that can reach a child’s heart. It’s verbal and relational approach helps children internalize and remember the biblical family values that are important.

This devotional goes through different aspects concerning authorities, relationships, possessions, work, attitudes, and choices.  It is laid out to have one character trait that you go over for FIVE days in a row. Each week focuses on a Bible verse to memorize for that week.  After we had gone through this book once we found other resources that were helpful for us.

Treehouse Schoolhouse

Treehouse Schoolhouse offered already printed up verses that we could use for COPY WORK during our morning time. Now the author has created an entire book geared toward this Family devotional.  I love that we discuss a particular character trait with each devotional. We bring this trait into our daily school work with copy work and memorization.

Leading Little Ones to God

Another devotional book we have gone through several times is titled Leading Little ones to God. Our family loves the simplicity of this book. Each devotional is short with a few questions at the end. There is even a suggested Hymn and Bible reading that you can choose to add in if you like. Nothing is more important than talks with mom and dad about the God who made us and loves us. Little children enjoy being read to and this can be done almost anytime of the day. Our children are no exception and always enjoy reading time. Devotional or Bible time should be a part of every day.

Additionally, this book goes through fourteen different parts. Here are the 14 sections and their corresponding titles.

  • Part one: Looking for God
  • Part two: God is very great
  • Part three: all that God does is good
  • Part four: sin spoiled the world
  • Part five: God’s law
  • Part six: God loves us
  • Part seven: what Jesus did
  • Part eight: about the holy spirit
  • Part nine: how we become children of God
  • Part 10: how Gods children live and Grow
  • Part 11: God helps his children live for him
  • Part 12: when we pray to God
  • Part 13: about Gods church and
  • Part 14: things that are to happen

There are so many wonderful things under each category! Each of these sections in the devotional book do a great job taking these topics about the Lord and bringing them down to our kids level and causing us to have some good family discussions.

Looking forward to sharing more of our favorites soon.
