I love the Christmas season. My goal is for this season to be a time to slow down even more than usual. My goal is for us to try to have an all encompassing sense of peace in our home. I am very passionate about these goals during the season. However, this can be a struggle. During the Christmas season there are so many fun things for us to get involved in! It is always a challenge to keep ourselves from committing ourselves to to many activities.
Time around the Tree
One of my favorite times during Christmas is what we call, “tree time”. I love for our family to have quiet times of sitting around the Christmas tree. Often times if it is cold enough we will do this next to the fire telling. Sometimes we tell stories and read books and enjoying each other with lots of laughs. Other times we will pull out board games. There is something about having our tree during this season that makes our living room seem cozier than usual.

Christmas Homeschool Lessons
During the Christmas seasons, we take three weeks to do a fun Christmas Unit. Beginning the Monday after Thanksgiving we gather together each day. The schedule is for a slow-paced morning of good Bible reading (the Christmas story), carols, handicrafts, poems, art and baking. This time connects us together as a family and our goal is for it to revolve around the Lord. “It’s about connecting hearts to the heart of Christmas–to the truth of Jesus coming to earth to seek and save the lost.” Treehouse schoolhouse
We love Treehouse Schoolhouse Connected Christmas!
I love that the curriculum is laid out week by week for a total of three weeks. We go through our curriculum from Monday to Friday. The teacher book lays everything out so it is simple to follow. It includes your plan for Bible reading, hymns, poetry, and art study. This also includes the read aloud list (see all the photos of the beautiful books, a new one each day) and the hands-on connection.

For the read aloud picture book, I try to make it FUN and exciting for the kids. I wrap up each book and the kids take turns opening a new one every day!
We decided to purchase the books but you can certainly pick them up at a library or even watch them on YOUTUBE. The kids have a keepsake journal of of the true Christmas story! Each year they can do a new one!

There is a playlist made up with the three different Christmas songs that we can learn and sing each morning. This is a wonderful way for us to start our day! Each day of the week you have the same hymn or song that you sing. Singing this daily helps our kids to learn these hymns well. Each day for the week you also have the same artist & poem print. However, each day you focus on something different about that print or poem (observe, questions, study, and then finally you get a chance to replicate it). The read aloud book is different each day and the handi-craft goes along with this book. We pick and choose what craft or activity we want to do. There is no way for us to do them all!
Love this time of reflecting on the Lord and family and not getting into the HUSTLE and BUSTLE of the world! It takes intentionality but simplicity is best!
